Transformation Thursday: Tim’s inspiring journey

Meet Tim Hilder, one of our most dedicated Harriers. Tim consistently participates in our training sessions, including track workouts and swimming. His hard work at home is definitely paying off. But don’t just take our word for it. Keep reading to discover how Tim has achieved all of this in just 13 months!

What a difference 13 months and 25kg make! 😃

I had been overweight for decades, but in December 2021, I realized I was also extremely unfit. I would get out of breath just going up two flights of stairs, yet I couldn’t bring myself to step on the scales. It took until April 2022 to resolve to do something about it, and I started swimming regularly and dieting.

In October last year, I began the Couch to 5k running program on the treadmill, which I completed by Christmas. I braved my first Parkrun on New Year’s Eve at Mote Park and have been going at least once a fortnight.

Considering how much I loathed sports and PE at school, I amazed myself with how much I actually enjoyed running. To the extent that I joined the Maidstone Harriers running & Tri club. I’m now running at least twice a week, swimming 1-2 times a week, and trying to get back into cycling.

I continue to eat healthily and am apprehensively looking forward to having a go at a triathlon in July. 😬

Other benefits have included better sleep for both me and Sam, as the weight loss has cured my snoring. The only downside is having to throw out all my clothes as I’ve gone from XL to medium, 38″ waist to 32″. And there’s no way I’ll let myself go back to where I was.

I guess the point of this post is to say how much better I feel, physically and mentally, now that I’m getting fitter. I won’t pretend that it’s been easy, but I’m so glad I did it and wish I had done it sooner.

💚🖤🤍 Looking to become a better, more rounded athlete? We can help!
