Sharon Takes on the 3 Castles

A Gritty Performance in Tough Conditions

Harrier Sharon Barnett took on the Three Castles 50km for the second time last weekend – a scenic but seriously tough ultra trail challenge. With over 1,000 metres of elevation, technical woodland paths, open countryside and castle views, it’s a course that tests even seasoned runners.

Add in warm weather and a mid-race fall, and Sharon’s performance is even more impressive.

Stumbles, Scenery and Steely Determination

At the 26-mile mark, Sharon stacked it and skidded, picking up some battle wounds that cost her time. But in true Harrier style, she carried on with strength and spirit, crossing the finish line as 2nd in her age category and 5th female overall.

Here’s what she had to say:

“3 Castles 50km run done for the second time. Warm 😁

Stacked it and skidded at 26 miles which slowed me down with wounds but happy with second in my age, 5th lady overall.

It’s more challenging than other hilly 50kms I’ve done… not easy under foot but lovely scenery and superb aid stations.

Great to see many friendly faces.

Well ran everyone ☀️”

A Course That Delivers (and Demands)

The Three Castles 50K starts at Rochester Castle and finishes with a lap of the Tonbridge athletics track, taking runners through rolling Kent and Sussex countryside, forest trails and National Trust land on scenic trails along the River Medway. They pass through three historic castles of Rochester, Allington and Tonbridge, as they wind through woodland paths, riverside stretches and rolling countryside. It’s known for its beauty and its brutal terrain.

Congratulations, Sharon – such an amazing result on a tough course!
