Tim Hilder of Maidstone Harriers celebrates finishing the Brighton Marathon with arms raised

Member of the Month, November 2025
Tim Hilder

We are proud to recognise Tim Hilder as November’s Member of the Month. A true all-rounder, Tim combines his leadership duties as a Triathlon Captain with a unique technical contribution that keeps our club running smoothly.

From the track to the trails, Tim is the definition of a supportive clubmate. He balances his own marathon goals with a tireless commitment to helping others, ensuring that our training sessions are accessible, organised and enjoyable for everyone.

Meet Tim

A local through and through, Tim was raised in Allington and now lives in Loose. Since joining the club, he has transformed his fitness and become a cornerstone of both our running and triathlon communities. Tim is known for his friendly nature and his willingness to step up whenever help is needed.

From first miles to marathons

Tim’s progression as a runner is a testament to the Harrier spirit. After finding that training significantly improved his health and well-being, he tackled his first marathon in Brighton last year. This was a massive milestone that proved he was capable of things he once never dreamed of. He is now channelling that experience into his next big challenge, the Paris Marathon in 2026.

Triathlon leadership and support

As a triathlon captain, Tim plays a vital role in our multi-sport community. He is a constant source of encouragement at races and training sessions, always ready with a helpful suggestion or a cheering voice. He leads by example with his participation in the Eastbourne Triathlon. His support helps foster the camaraderie that makes our triathlon section so special.

Triathlon Leadership and Support As a Triathlon Captain and regular support runner, Tim is always on hand to help others achieve their goals. He leads by example, represented here by his successful finish at the Eastbourne Triathlon Festival. Tim is a proactive voice in the club, frequently offering helpful suggestions to improve training sessions and volunteering his time to ensure our club races are a success.

The routemaster

If you enjoy the convenience of scanning a QR code to get your route map on a club night, you have Tim to thank. As one half of our “Route Masters,” he prints the guides and generates the digital links for our Garmins. It’s a behind-the-scenes task that makes a huge difference to the smooth running of our weekly sessions.

Technical expertise

Tim also puts his professional skills to work for the benefit of the club. He recently came to the rescue by repairing our track clocks and converting them to battery operation – a practical fix that ensures our track nights remain professional and precise.

Views from the cockpit

When he isn’t on the road or in the water, Tim can often be found in the clouds. As a pilot with his own aeroplane, he has a unique perspective on our local running routes from above. This passion for aviation perhaps explains his knack for navigation and his meticulous approach to mapping out our club runs.

Q&A with Tim

Where are you from, and where do you live now?

Maidstone and Maidstone. Brought up in Allington and now living in Loose.

What’s your occupation outside of the club?

I run an electrical contracting company, based in Linton, and specialise in industrial control systems.

What do you love most about running/cycling/swimming?

I love the positive impact it’s had on my life, feeling so much better in myself and much healthier than I did before I started. I’ve done things I’d never dreamed I was capable of a few years ago.

What’s the best thing about being a part of the Harriers?

It’s got to be the camaraderie of such a supportive community. I’m so grateful to be a Harrier. I know for certain there’s no way I’d have kept training and pushing myself without the encouragement of my club mates.

What’s your best sporting moment?

Finishing my first marathon in Brighton last year was a huge highlight. It felt like a massive milestone, and I’m looking forward to my next in Paris next year.

What song do you play when going for a personal best?

I’m going to get ribbed for this, but I’m a closet Taylor Swift fan 😂 The Reputation album is my go-to for Parkrun.

What’s your post-race treat?

It’s got to be a juicy burger and strawberry milkshake.

Thank You, Tim

Congratulations to Tim Hilder, our November 2025 Member of the Month. Teammate, triathlon captain, marathon runner, route master, pilot and volunteer. Whether you are on the ground or in the air, thank you for everything you do to keep the club moving forward. We wish you the very best of luck with your training for Paris!
