Member of the Month, March 2026
Simon Apps
We’ve chosen Simon Apps as our March Member of the Month, not just because he’s a brilliant runner, but because of everything he brings to the club.
Simon is a key part of Team Harriers and one of the captains who has helped steer our success in the Grand Prix races. He somehow keeps on top of the complicated scoring system and is usually the one posting the unofficial updated standings within 24 hours, which is no small job.
He is also a huge parkrun fan and has been first finisher on 45 occasions, most often at Mote Park, usually with his wonderful spaniel Loki nearby.

Meet Simon
A Key Part of Team Harriers
Simon plays a big role in the competitive side of the club. As one of the Grand Prix captains, he helps keep things organised, keeps a close eye on the points, and brings a lot of energy to the team effort across the season.
Grand Prix Know-How
Anyone who has looked at the Grand Prix scoring system will know it is not exactly light reading. Simon somehow manages to stay on top of it all and is often first to post the latest standings, making sure everyone knows where they stand and what is still to play for.
Parkrun Pacesetter
Simon is also a serious parkrun regular. With 45 first finishes to his name (finishing in first place at 8 different events), he has built quite a record, particularly at Mote Park. He is clearly quick, but just as importantly he brings a sense of humour to it all, which fits the Harriers spirit perfectly.
Fast, Committed and Good for Morale
Whether it is racing hard, helping drive the team competition, or keeping people honest in training, Simon brings plenty to the club. He is sharp, competitive and funny, which is not a bad combination to have around.
Q&A with Simon
Where are you from, and where do you live now?
I was dragged up in SE London and have been living in Maidstone for the last 9 years.
What’s your occupation outside of the club?
I work for a company that produces/tests/inspects optical components.
What do you love most about running/cycling/swimming?
I have a love/hate relationship with running, but, importantly, it enables me to consume more biscuits.
What’s the best thing about being a part of the Harriers?
It’s good to have people around you to keep you honest during hard sessions.
What’s your best sporting moment?
I was once handicapped by being lumbered with a stranger in an egg and spoon race. It still didn’t stop me from dragging us to a convincing victory. I later married the stranger so I guess she was the real winner.
What song do you play when going for a personal best?
I prefer to be unplugged when running. If I’m going for a PB, then it’ll likely mean I’ve started too fast and I’ll be listening to people chase me down at the end of a race.
What’s your post-race treat?
My ability to chew solids after a race is rendered inconceivable due to panting like a dog whilst running. I would likely bring it back up in any case.
Thank You, Simon
Congratulations to Simon Apps, our March 2026 Member of the Month. Fast, committed and always fully invested in the team, he has played a big part in the Harriers’ Grand Prix success and continues to bring plenty to club life, on and off the course.
