Member of the Month, February 2026
Matt Fraser

We are please to announce Matt Fraser as our Member of the Month for February.

Matt’s a longstanding Harrier and a familiar face on Wednesday night club runs. He’s one of the regular support runners for the 5k group – selflessly turning up, putting the work in and helping make the club what it is.

A Valued Part of Club Run

Many members will know Matt from Wednesday evenings, where he regularly supports the 5k group. He is committed to training and has long been a dependable part of club life, helping create the kind of atmosphere where people feel welcome and supported whatever their pace.

More Than Just the Miles

Matt’s contribution to the Harriers is not only about running. He is also a big part of the social side of the club, with many members knowing him as the quizmaster at our events. It is another example of the role he plays in bringing people together.

A Long Connection to Running

Matt’s proudest sporting moment is crossing the finish line of the London Marathon in 1997. It was his first marathon, and an achievement he had once thought might be beyond him.

That sense of challenge still comes through in how he talks about running now. For Matt, being outside, escaping the usual demands of life, and enjoying the trails, peace and views are all part of what keeps him coming back.

Q&A with Matt

Where are you from, and where do you live now?

I was born and raised in Coxheath, have lived in Wateringbury and Barming, and now live in East Farleigh right on the border of Coxheath, so I’ve come a long way. My father was from Aberdeen, so I feel a strong affinity to Scotland.

What’s your occupation outside of the club?

Community Engagement. I work for everyone’s favourite train operator – Southeastern, facilitating community projects and events. I’m particularly proud of the café at Hollingbourne station which I helped make happen.
We’re currently doing a lot of work with SEND organisations to help young people gain the skills and confidence they need to travel independently.

What do you love most about running / swimming / cycling?

It’s great being outside, freeing myself from any other obligations for an hour or two. I particularly like hitting the trails and enjoying the piece, quiet and the views.

What’s the best thing about being a part of the Harriers?

Being part of a team where you are valued no matter what standard you perform at.

What’s your best sporting moment?

Crossing the finish line at the London Marathon 1997. It was my first marathon, and I achieved something I had previously believed to be beyond my capability.

What song do you play when going for a personal best?

I don’t listen to music when I’m running. I do sometimes have Sia’s Never Give Up rattling around inside my head towards the end of a long race. For a mood lift Better Things by the Kinks is my go-to song.

What’s your post-race treat?

A couple of pints of Badgers Tanglefoot or Blandford Fly whilst I’m cooking the Sunday roast.

Thank You, Matt

Congratulations to Matt Fraser, our February 2026 Member of the Month. Longstanding Harrier, support runner and quizmaster, he is a great example of the steady contribution that helps make the club such a strong and welcoming place.
