Member of the Month, October 2025
Anthony Bishop
Having embodied the spirit of the club in every way, we are delighted to recognise Anthony Bishop as October’s Member of the Month.
He shows the best of the club, combining personal goals with generous support for others. Anthony has had a cracker of a year, his highlights include a tough 50 km ultra and raising thousands when competing in the running the London Marathon.

Meet Anthony
Anthony is Maidstone through and through. He shows up, supports others and represents the club with pride.
Latest event: Kent Downs 50 Ultra Challenge
Anthony’s most recent achievement was a hard 50 km day on the Kent Downs Ultra Challenge. Strong, steady and smiling at the finish, it reflects his habit of turning big goals into steady progress.
Charity miles: London Marathon 2024
Earlier in the year Anthony ran the TCS London Marathon for Breast Cancer Now in memory of his late wife, Anne. He joined the club to prepare for the race and speaks often about the encouragement he received from so many Harriers along the way.
Volunteering and support
Around the club Anthony is a regular volunteer at events and a reliable guide for our visually impaired (VI) runners. He brings a kind word when it matters, a quick joke when it helps and, with luck, a some sausage rolls on special occasions.
Q&A with Anthony
Where are you from, and where do you live now?
Maidstone born a bred, recently moved back to Allington (where I was born) from Loose.
What’s your occupation outside of the club?
I am a picture framer, running a business in Maidstone, The Anthony Saward Gallery, which I have done so for the last 28 years after taking over the business from my farther-in-law. A job which I love!
What do you love most about running?
What I love most about running is the challenge. I’m a Virgo, so I always want to do the best I can.
I can be pretty hard on myself, but I’m out there and it’s great for my mind and body!
What’s the best thing about being a part of the Harriers?
Friendship is the best thing about being a Harrier. From day one of joining the club I was welcomed and supported by an amazing group of fellow runners.
What’s your best sporting moment?
My best sporting moment was running the London Marathon, my very first! I ran for Breast Cancer Now in memory of my late wife Anne.
The main reason for joining the club was to train for the marathon and the help and encouragement I received from numerous members of the club was invaluable.
What song do you play when going for a personal best?
Don’t often run with music, but when I do it’s generally 80’s disco – trying to recapture my youth!
What’s your post-race treat?
Chocolate in any form, every time!
Thank You, Anthony
